INSIGHTS – Bike Racks for Camper Vans: The Modular PUSHrack System for Campers & Vans

So much more than just a bike rack for the reardoor

The innovative transport system for camper vans

You can use it to transport bicycles, as well as bike trailers, e-scooters, skis, snowboards, and surfboards
The PUSHrack Concept

Make room, go on an adventure

Anyone who travels by van knows the problem: no matter how big the vehicle is, there’s never quite enough space. At the same time, though, going on vacation without your bikes, skis, or e-scooter is out of the question.

And if you don’t want to be constantly tripping over your gear or playing “camper Tetris” every single day, sooner or later you’ll ask yourself: where do I put all this stuff?

That’s exactly why we at PUSH components developed the PUSHrack system. A well-designed, minimalist system that securely attaches your gear to the rear of your van in a space-saving way, freeing up space inside your camper.

PUSHrack Bike Rack

Your bike is always with you

It all began in 2020 with Lenz and Betti’s first van. They bought the van, and of course, the bikes had to come along too. The solutions available on the market worked, but they never quite felt right: too heavy, too inflexible, too cumbersome to handle.

And anyone who knows them knows: one bike is never enough!

The requirements for their bike rack were clear:

  • Transport more than three bikes
  • The rack should carry all types of bikes, from gravel to fat bikes
  • No matter how wide the MTB handlebars are, they should fit on the rack
  • As light as possible
  • Each bike should be removable individually
  • No obstructing rails when opening or closing the van doors
  • The rack doesn’t need to be removed and stored during the off-season

In short:
A rack that adapts to van life.

It was precisely these considerations that led to the first prototype of the PUSHrack.
At that point, it wasn’t yet clear that this would one day become a mass-produced product.

But feedback came quickly and in abundance. At campgrounds, while traveling, or in conversations with other campers, it became increasingly clear: they weren’t alone in having these needs.

Friends wanted to test the rack. Recommendations were passed along. An idea became a product. And a product became a system.

Just five years after the initial idea, over 10,000 bike racks were already on the road.

Continuously building on previous ideas

From the first prototype to V3

Even after selling the first 10,000 bike racks, it was clear to Lenz: there was still room for improvement.

After all, a product is never truly finished—especially not when new demands constantly arise in real-world use. Feedback from the community, personal experiences while traveling, and countless tests were directly incorporated into the further development. Step by step, this led to the creation of the next generation of the PUSHrack.

With the V2, an integrated locking bar for theft protection was added for the first time. An important feature for anyone who wants to secure their bikes quickly and easily.

And with the V3 bike rack, the system was fundamentally refined once again:

  • significantly reduced lateral tilt of the bikes
  • greater stability thanks to an enlarged tire support and integrated stem guide
  • even easier installation and faster handling
  • infinitely adjustable tire holder positioning thanks to slide bearings
  • compatible with nearly all Click-Fix mounts and e-bike displays
  • Thanks to the matching gravel adapter, road bikes and gravel bikes can now also be transported without having to adjust the saddle settings

The result is a bike rack that has not only evolved but has been reimagined in many details. And this has been confirmed by an independent source:

The PUSHrack V3 was honored by the community with the Camper Vans Sports Award 2026. A wonderful validation for us and a clear signal that well-thought-out solutions find their place in the market.

Will my bike fit on the PUSHrack?

More than just bicycles

Transporting winter sports equipment on a camper

What started out as a bike rack was always meant to be something bigger. After all, anyone who rides a bike in the summer often faces the exact same question in the winter when it comes to skis or snowboards: Where to put the gear?

Naturally, we wanted to create a solution for that, too. It’s ideal for anyone who uses their camper year-round.

Our first response was the SNOWbag—a well-designed transport bag that reliably protects your skis and snowboards from dirt, flying debris, and road salt.

But as is often the case, the next chapter came from the community. Many people asked about the possibility of transporting their skis directly on the vehicle without a bag. They wanted a more affordable system that was quicker to access and even easier to use.

So we took the system a step further. And replaced the SNOWbag with our SNOW racks. This allows you to attach your skis, cross-country skis, and snowboards directly to the back of your van.

For those who want extra protection, standard ski bags can be used without any issues. And if you already own a SNOWbag, you can continue to use it or mount the rack directly on the back of the camper using the appropriate adapters.

In our blog post, HOW TO: Installing Ski and Cross-Country Ski Racks, developer Lenz shows you how to properly assemble your ski and cross-country ski racks and how to attach the pole holders to your racks.

The mount for bicycle trailers

When needs change

Some innovations don’t come from feedback, but simply from real life. With their first child, Lenz and Betti faced a whole new challenge: they still wanted to take their bike on trips, but now they couldn’t do it alone.

So a solution was needed. A bike trailer that doubles as a stroller was quickly found. What followed is probably familiar to anyone who’s ever stowed one of these in a van: They’re big. Really big. And they take up an incredible amount of space inside. It quickly became clear: The trailer had to go outside. But how do you securely attach something like that to a camper?

That’s exactly how the bike trailer mount for the PUSHrack system came about.

It allows for the transport of:

  • Single and double child bike trailers
  • Dog trailers
  • Cargo trailers

The only requirement is that the rear axle is freely accessible.

PUSHrack Expansion 2025

Transporting an E-scooter on a camper

Not every idea for the PUSHrack system stemmed from our own needs. The E-scooter rack is the best example of this.

While bicycles, skis, and snowboards were a given for Lenz and Betti from the very beginning, the idea for an e-scooter rack was initially brought to us by others.

Time and again, we received the same feedback from the community: The camper is parked at the campsite, but for trips to the bakery, into town, or to the lake, a small, flexible mode of transportation is ideal.

For many, the e-scooter became exactly that solution. So we took on the challenge—together with a very dedicated customer who has been involved in the development from the very beginning.

The biggest challenge here: There is no real standard. Different tire sizes, suspensions, folding mechanisms, and weights make each model unique.

That’s exactly why it was clear: If we’re going to build a solution for this, it has to be just as flexible as the entire PUSHrack system.

The result is a mount that’s compatible with nearly all common e-scooter models and integrates seamlessly into the existing system.

When we first unveiled the e-scooter carrier at the CMT in Stuttgart in early 2025, it quickly became clear: the need was greater than we had anticipated. Demand was enormous, and pre-sales began even during the trade show; shortly thereafter, we already had to ramp up production.

A clear sign of just how many campers had been looking for exactly this solution.

PUSHrack Extension 2026

More storage space on the back: The PUSHrack Room Extender

The Room Extender wasn’t just designed on a drawing board either. The idea of creating additional storage space on the outside of the vehicle was a pressing need.

And the community’s response was clear from the very beginning:
We traveled to the Bucketride Festival at Lake Faaker See with the first prototype of the Room Extender. There, we were able to give the concept its first real-world preview and quickly realized how well the idea was received.

At the Campfire of Ideas, the Room Extender was voted one of the top 3 concepts by the community. A strong signal and, at the same time, the starting signal for further development.

At CMT 2026 in Stuttgart, Lenz finally presented the idea on the main stage. Not only the transport box, but also the ability to carry items like wedges or tools on the outside of the vehicle was received extremely positively.

It is precisely this kind of feedback that shows us there is a great need for systems and transport solutions that go far beyond traditional carrier solutions.

PUSHrack Extension 2026

Surf. Sleep. Repeat.

With two passionate surfers on the team, it quickly became clear: if we were going to develop a surfboard rack, it had to do more than just carry a board.

With the new PUSHrack surfboard rack, we’re expanding the modular PUSHrack System to include a flexible solution for safely transporting surfboards on the outside of a camper. Up to three boards can be transported in a space-saving manner on the rear of the vehicle—including short SUPs, foils, or kayaks.

During development, it became clear once again how important it is to have true insiders on the team: While Lenz initially focused primarily on the robust construction, Flora and Dani, as surfers, insisted on surface protection that would neither dent nor damage sensitive boards. That’s why a special technical felt is now used on the contact surfaces.

The surfboard rack was finally perfected by developer Lici. She continued the previous development work, tested different approaches, discarded some solutions, sewed various bag variations, and step by step developed a prototype that ultimately passed PUSHrack’s quality and style checks.

The issue of theft protection arose directly from the community. Many users asked for a secure solution for travel and longer stops, which is why a security kit is available as an option.

Thanks to the integrated board holder, loading can be done easily by one person. The board can be “parked” in the bag with ease and then secured with the straps.

In our blog post INSIGHT: Surfboard Rack, you’ll learn how to transport up to three boards on the back of your vehicle.

And we’re far from done.
We’re already working on new solutions to make the system even more versatile.
Because the idea behind the PUSHrack remains the same: a rear rack that fits your life style!
