Traveling with a child, a camper, and maximum flexibility
Philipp, Kim, and Emil from Lokitours
Anyone who travels a lot knows the problem: Bikes, e-scooters, camping gear, and all your luggage compete for every centimeter of storage space in the camper. Philipp and Kim from Lokitours have found their own solution to this problem. Together with their son Emil, they’ve been traveling through Europe for years in their custom-converted Citroën Jumper, prioritizing maximum flexibility—including the ability to bring their bikes and e-scooters along. In our PUSH interview, they talk about themselves and their passion: camping.
Thank you so much for sharing your stories and your passion for camping with us today. Who’s behind Lokitours, and how do you use your van?
We’re Philipp and Kim from Bochum, and we’re traveling through Europe as part-time vanlifers with our son Emil. In addition to traditional vacations and weekend trips, we use our camper for extended parental leave, vanlife gatherings, and trade show appearances.
Where do you most often go with your camper?
So far, we’ve mainly traveled to northern and eastern Europe. Scandinavia, the Baltic states, Poland, and Scotland were already on our travel list. We especially appreciate the freedom to travel as close to nature as possible and—where permitted—to camp freely.
How long have you been traveling in your camper?
Our first camping adventure began in 2020 with a rental vehicle. Since 2021, we’ve been on the road in our self-converted Citroën Jumper and have been enjoying the freedom to travel spontaneously and independently ever since.
How did you transport your equipment before you had a PUSHrack?
We didn’t have a proper rear rack solution before. We tried to fit everything inside the car. That was often a hassle, took a lot of time, and took up valuable space.
Why did you choose the PUSHrack system?
We learned about the PUSHrack through a direct recommendation. We were particularly impressed by its tremendous flexibility, its easy installation, and the fact that the system itself takes up hardly any space on the vehicle.
What do you think is the biggest benefit in everyday life?
Definitely the ease of use. Both our bikes and the e-scooter can be quickly attached and removed. That saves time and hassle and gives us the freedom to decide on the spot what we want to take with us on each trip.
What's currently taking up the most space in your camper?
In fact, it’s not so much the sports gear as the everyday items: jackets, shoes for different weather conditions, dirty laundry, a sunshade, or an outdoor rug take up a surprising amount of storage space on longer trips.
Do you have any tips for other campers?
Customize your camper to suit your needs. These needs may change over time—especially as you start a family, take up new hobbies, or change your travel habits. That’s why it’s worth thinking flexibly and constantly trying out new solutions.
Philipp and Kim clearly show that van life doesn’t mean limiting yourself. On the contrary: With the right solutions, you have more freedom for spontaneous adventures, longer trips, and the things that are truly fun on the road.
